woodgate beach

I just got back from a two week holiday to Woodgate with my family! Woodgate is a small little costal town in between Hervey Bay and Bunderburg on the eastern Queensland coast. We had a wonderful two weeks on the beach, exploring and visiting nearby towns. Here are some photos from our adventure:

I loved the moodiness of the ocean -- blue and sparkling one day and wild and grey the next. I've never spent a significant amount of time by the sea before, so it was really cool to get aquatinted with the tides and moonrises etc. To fall asleep listening to the ocean's roar is something I'm already missing.

And the sunsets. I miss the sunsets.

I love this photo of two of my little siblings -- watching a storm roll in.

One of the road trips we took was to a nursery/garden called bamboo land we had visited as a family over seven years ago. It was nostalgic to be walking those same paths again.

This is from Maryborough, a town I loved because of its historical buildings. (Or as my family and I call them for no reason, "hysterical buildings.")

A beautiful place in Woodgate was Theodolite Creek, which we called Treasure Cove. Unfortunately, I have no photos of the place, nor do I think photos can do it justice. It was an inlet of the sea. When the tide was out, you could walk for ages across the mouth of the sea. When the tide was in, pools and sand islands where formed. The place was nestled by a beautiful little forest and the sand had lots of driftwood and shells on it, hence "Treasure" Cove.

It feels so good to be home, and yet so exciting to be leaving again soon, because I move out this week to study Floristry in Brisbane. And with my boxes of possessions I'll carry with me these memories.

I went on a wonderful two-week trip with my mum to the Blue Mountains, Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne. We flew to Sydney, cruised to Hobart and to Melbourne, then flew home. This was my first time leaving Queensland for a holiday, and it was such a fun time.

Unfortunately, we didn't go in the opera house, but we did get this view of it while cruising out.

There have been a couple of small road trips as well. I found a lot of beautiful places near where we live that I'd never visited before.

a sunflower field

This year, I started planning a trip to visit a sunflower field for the first time ever. First I looked into going to a place down south that had a field, but when that didn't work out, I planned a Towoomba visit that turned into an all-day shopping event. The sunflowers outside of Towomba were rumored to have all died anyway. I gave up on my dream and hoped maybe next sunflower season I'd go to a field to take photos. A few weeks later we were driving to town to go to church. We drive on this road all the time. I happened to look to the left and I saw a golden sea of sunflowers! There was some squealing from me at this point. :) I can't remember seeing sunflowers in our town before, and it was an awesome blessing to have a massive field of beautiful flowers right by the road where I would see them frequently. I walked into the field and snapped dozens of photos. And so that dream came true!

favourite thrifted finds

1. I bought this denim jacket yesterday, for just five dollars! It's already become a favourite of mine.
2. The perfect oversized sweater. It's really comfy. Five dollars.
3. I love this flannel I found for six dollars. The colours are so nice.
4. My go-to jumper on lazy days! I think it was only four dollars. It's light grey on the top half and changes into dark grey on the bottom half.

room tour

Today I decided to post a tour of my ever-changing room. Mostly so I can look back in a year's time, and see what it has become. Let's get started!




















This is my IKEA desk & chair, where I study & create. The film camera is from a local antique shop. I grew the succulent from a cutting--its name is Larry. :) The lights and the vanilla candle are from a cheap shop, the brown paper notebook from IKEA & the notebook at that bottom of the stack is a brown leather journal I made.

I'm not completely sure where I bought this quilt set. The deer cushion I got from Spotlight and the grey pillow from an op shop.

At the end of my bed I keep my noticeboard, a stack of reading material & a few CDs. The magazine and that gorgeous paper garland came from Bella Magazine.

This shelf was second hand, but I think it came from IKEA originally. The letters are from Typo, and the copper teapot is from an op shop. In case you're wondering, I store my books spine-inward because I want them to match more.

Lastly, my wardrobe. I made this hanging clothes rack (DIY here) from a curtain rod & some rope. On the ground I store a suitcase for my other clothes and a wire basket I spray-painted copper.

new camera

When I first began photography a few years ago, I did so with my parents’ point-and-shoot. I used it so much they eventually decided to give it to me. That’s what I’ve been using on this blog. Until now. ;) I’ve always wanted a SLR, but I didn’t start seriously saving until this year. The fact that I was getting into film-making and couldn’t shoot HD video on my little camera officially sealed the deal. I started shopping around and doing research. It wasn’t until November that a friend of mine found and texted me an add for a Canon 550D (Rebel T2i) for sale near where we live. I was travelling at the time so I arranged for my dad check out the camera. On December 1st I become the proud owner of an SLR! Here are a few photos I’ve taken so far:

photos & their stories

i. We took the back road home so I could take this photo. There are forests full of these trees all around where we live. I love them most in the golden hour, when light slices through the leaves. Some moments simply beg you to live them; which can be as simple as pulling over to capture a scene otherwise forgotten.

ii. Every October, the country turns purple with Jacaranda flowers clinging to branches and, as they fall, covering the grass in a thick carpet. Solitude is found in sitting under a tree, waiting for purple rain.

iii. It seems every year I forget how much I love spring, so when the air turns sweet and full of golden light, I’m surprised again at the beauty of it all. Every walk seems to turn into a wild-flower picking expedition. And I’m okay with that.
